Questions

Why call a bar for gay women "BOYFRIEND"?

  • It's fun and silly and ironic.

  • Anyone of any gender can be a boyfriend.

  • Don't think about it.

I'm thinking about starting something similar, but I don't know where to start! Is there anyone I can talk to?

Check out the startup links on our Co-op Resources Page! Also, feel free to stop by and talk to some of our worker-owners about what it's like working in a Co-op.

What is a co-op? I've heard of the grocery stores, but what does that mean as a cafe/bar?

A co-op is a business that's owned and democratically managed by its members. Many grocery store coops (but not all) are consumer-owned – like the wonderful Park Slope Food Co-op! Worker-coops are fewer in numbers but growing in popularity every day. If you want to learn more, we have a compiled some co-op resources here.

I'd love to know more about what you all have going on!

I have a really cool idea for an event I'd like to see happen at BOYFRIEND! Is it possible to talk to someone about setting that up?

Definitely! Email us at queers@boyfriend.coop.
